Training School in Salamanca (ES)
CLPU, Salamanca, Spain, 4-7 September 2023
Co-organize the 5th "LaPlaSS" Laser-Plasma Summer School
The 5th "Laser-Plasma Summer School - LaPLaSS" titled "High Intensity Laser-Plasma processes for Laser Fusion and related applications” will be held at the CLPU (Centro de Laseres Pulsados) and is co-organised by the Cost Action CA21128-PROBONO. The school is open to MSc and PdD students. Participation is without fees but registration and reservation are required.
The registration is open on 1st of May until the Wednesday 31 of May at the following page:

Laser/Plasma Physics has been one of the highest interest emerging fields during the last years, but historic milestone achieved by NIF in 2022 in Inertial Confinement Fusion (ICF) has located the field among the hottest topics not only in Physics but in general Science. Laser-driven plasma is the primary subject of investigation in the modern High power laser-facilities. The Centro de Láseres Pulsados (CLPU) is one of the most representative facilities in this area operating a PW level system working at 1-10 Hz. The VEGA system is already several years in full operation and multiple experimental campaigns have been already performed by international recognised research groups. The special characteristics of VEGA, which combines high intensity, ultra-short duration and high repetition rate, locate this facility in a privileged situation for new exciting possibilities in Laser/Plasma Physics and present as well important challenges for Targetry and Diagnostics techniques.
The "LaPlaSS - Laser-Plasma Summer School” has been created by CLPU in Salamanca and intend to introduce and include a new generation of students in Laser-Plasma Physics in particular related to the use of PW-class lasers working at a high-repetition-rate, as the laser VEGA at CLPU, and as the lasers which are mostly used in proton-boron experiments. The co-organization of this 5th edition by PROBONO COST Action will allow to put particular emphasis on all the aspects related to pB experiments, from experimental set-up, to diagnostics and targetry, and to theory. At the same time the students will benefit from learning the basic notions about lasers and plasmas, the traditional content of the school, which are essential in the pB fusion context. The school will associate traditional lessons, hand-on laboratory sessions and hand-on numerical simulation sessions. More specific will include:
Theory: 4 full mornings with 4 hours/day of lectures (total16 hours)
Practice: 3 afternoons with a series of specialised talks from CLPU team and experimental practie session
Exam: a final multiple choices is predicted for all students
List of Invited lectures:
Olga Rosmey, GSI (Germany, DE), Fabrizio Consoli, ENEA (Italy, IT), Daniele Margarone, ELI-BEamline (Czech Republic, CZ), Marco Borghesi, Queen's University Belfast (United Kingdom, UK), Malte Kaluza, University of Jena (Germany, DE), Gianluca Sarri, Queen's University Belfast (United Kingdom, UK), Sebastien LePape (France, Fr), Luca Volpe (Spain, ES).
